NATAL HOUSE OF MELÉNDEZ-VALDÉS
The house where the riverside poet Don Juan Meléndez Valdés was born located on the street that bears his name "Meléndez Valdés", number 19 has been decided to become a "house-museum" in honor of the memory of this illustrious writer in order to encourage the culture and tourism of the town.
Already in 1880, 63 years after Meléndez Valdés died, a commemorative plaque was placed on the facade of his native house so as not to forget the memory of this important poet, writer, magistrate, professor of humanities, mayor of crime, oidor and Spanish prosecutor from the 18th century.
Subsequently, on October 14, 2014, in the session of the Ordinary Plenary held by the Municipal Corporation, the purchase of the home where part of his childhood the coastal writer was born and lived was agreed. This property has an area that exceeds 200 square meters, making it ideal for achieving the goal pursued by our city council.
